P.S. Without starting another topic, I was listening to your solo on "Jose" from Steely Dan, circa '93.
Very hip.. very musical, and really held to the funky, James-Brown based theme. I could tell it was you from the crack of your mini-snare, and your signature tom fill (hard to describe, but I'd seen you do it on your videos.)
Actually, I preferred your jazz-infused interpretations of their tunes over the other occupants of the Steely drum throne, save Mr. Carlock, whom I havent heard yet.....

2. Thanks for the compliment, but that's Dennis on "Josie" on the Steely Dan "Live in America" CD ... the tracks with my drumming are "Green Earrings," "Third World Man" and "Book of Liars" ... thanks, anyway!

I have to run at the moment, but might try to post a couple of fun(ny)/interesting stories from that tour if any of you'd be interested ...
Steve; thanks for the advice ... I had a feeling that was what I'd have to do (duh). Will try it again after I get back home; flying from South Bend, Indiana this morning ... just judged the 46th Annual Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz festival and heard some great musicians over the past couple of days.

Dont be so humble! I was referring to a bootleg that someone had posted on this site, from '93, the first Steely tour, before the Alive in America CD came out. I think it was you on drums, that first tour, wasnt it? It definitely wasnt Dennis' style....

I've been meaning to ask this, especially that you've been spending time with young drummers.
Do you have any "gut" feelings about young drummers trying to play professionally today?
* Trying to define their own voice
* Narrowing down a practice routine
* Patience/ endurance/ confidence issues
* On being more musical as a drummer
